![]() While Stronghold 2 focuses on deep economic sim gameplay, Legends introduces fantasy elements and new combat mechanics. It also started a bunch of trends I dislike about the newer games, including but not limited to: only three towers and ugly blocky walls, buildings being more expensive across the board for no reason, MOBA abilities, weak/completely absent Skirmish modes, etc. A mythical castle builder recounting the fables of King Arthur, Vlad the Impaler and Siegfried of Xanten, Stronghold Legends introduces three unique factions, special units and completely new abilities. I dislike Crusader EXTREME tm for similar reasons. Stronghold Legends takes the castle-centric strategy series and plunges it into myth and legend, so you can battle as King Arthur or Dracula. I know the series has struggled with balance but Legends doesn't even remotely try to be balanced. Like if I wanted to play Warcraft I'd go play Warcraft. ![]() You have all manner of ridiculous arcadey nonsense like wolves being able to super jump over walls and aoe mind control conversion like you're playing Dota. Soldiers are equipped by forging weapons and armour out of materials you gather and not by converting various currencies into them, walls can be manned and aren't just a glorified fence, supply chains, combat is mostly grounded and plays out at a sensible place, the only exception is the instant build time which I think is inherited from the original's city builder elements. If you compare it to AOE2, Stronghold goes for realism over abstraction. Lead as fantasy characters throughout history: King Arthur and the forces of Camelot, Siegfried and. My primary gripe with Legends is the setting and approach.įor me SH is primarily a realistic series.
